about skin

“Beauty" is seen as smooth skin, an even complexion, and an absence of body hair. This series challenges that idea, creating art out of a canvas that we often perceive as ugly - our bodies. Painting over these photographs digitally allowed me to add colors and create shapes that emphasized the body's natural curves and textures, which changed the original perception of the base images. There is also a theme of natural versus artificial in this series. Although the base images are untouched, by painting over them I am introducing artificial elements with just a few clicks on my computer. This shows us how easy it is to manipulate images, and how things we think are beautiful aren’t always as they seem.
